What is love?
Many of the stories I write have a strong connection to love. Sometimes it is the love of a parent, the love of a spouse, the love for justice. But what is love, after all? A chemical reaction? A comfort? A feeling? A desire? A passion? Yes.
Now – I’m sure many people from different professions have opinions on this topic that are far better than mine. All I have is my personal experience and observation.
I’ve just started a new book in the Antares series that is centered on love, and it left me pondering this question at a deeper level. And then “an” answer (I won’t be bold enough to say it’s “the” answer), presented itself.
Recently, my girlfriend of nine years and I had to be apart for two weeks, during a difficult time for both of us. We were both busy, our relationship was strained and phone conversations had become about business, not each other.
When I finally returned home, I saw her and my heart skipped a beat. Yes – that’s corny. Perhaps it’s better to say that my heart felt lighter and at the same time more full. I smiled. She smiled. We hugged. I immediately felt the presence of love.
For me, it’s those moments when I know what love is.
